Rain, Bacon and a Whole Lotta Yarn

Good afternoon, y’all!

Can’t wait to tell y’all about the last two days! I’d usually be sipping my whipped iced coffee (recipe’s on The Sugar Bowl!), but I ran out of milk—so lemonade it is. Let’s get to chatting!

Wednesday (11/5)

When I woke up early, it was absolutely pouring, probably our first real downpour of the season. Since it was coming down so hard, I skipped Tucker’s walk and enjoyed the rain inside instead of being soaked and cold.

After getting up, I did my normal morning chores—dishes first. We don’t have a dishwasher, we have myself and a draying rack, but honestly, I don’t mind since it gives me time to listen to a podcast!

Breakfast was bacon, eggs, and apple slices. I bake my bacon at 400° for 10 minutes—it saves time and mess while I finish up dishes.

After breakfast, I sat down to write a blog post. I’ve decided to start writing earlier in the mornings, right after breakfast, so I don’t feel rushed and can give y’all better posts.

Then came more chores—vacuuming, laundry, picking up the house, and my weekly Wednesday deep clean of the bathroom and kitchen.

Once that was done, I made more crochet hexagons for my Christmas tree skirt. It took a while but it was worth it!

Later I got hungry and made deviled eggs (yes, as a snack!) with a slice of toast. Not something most folks make in the middle of the day, but they’re my favorite.

After that, I went right back to crocheting. The rest of the day was pretty laid-back—just dinner (leftover meatloaf) and relaxing for the evening.

Thursday (11/6)

I got up around 7:30, fed Tucker, and made breakfast—bacon, eggs, and toast this time. After eating, I did dishes, vacuumed, and worked on my newsletter.

For those who don’t know, The Sugar Bowl is my newsletter where I share family recipes and little life updates. If you’d like to join, you can sign up at the bottom of the page! Today’s newsletter was about what’s coming next and included a recipe at the end. Much like my first post on here.

Then I got back to the never-ending crochet Christmas tree skirt. I swear this project is going to take me down! (As of Friday 11/7, I’m finally stitching the hexagons together—so there’s light at the end of this never-ending tunnel!)

While crocheting, I caught up with one of my best friends. We’re the kind of friends who don’t talk for months but always pick up right where we left off. I’m so grateful for her.

After our chat, my husband and I took Tucker on a walk. Poor pup wasn’t thrilled at first, but once we got home, he went into full zoomie mode. We never understand why he does that, but luckily it only lasts a minute before he crashes.

To give him something to do, I gave him a frozen pumpkin treat I’d made earlier by mixing pumpkin purée and water, then freezing it in a dog bowl. He loved it—and it kept him busy for a good 15 minutes.

Then it was back to—yep, you guessed it—the crochet tree skirt. One day I’ll finish it!

After that, I took a break to read. I mentioned before that I wanted to get into a reading kick, and I am! I was going to reread The Hunger Games Series, starting with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, but I have so much to say about it that I decided to turn that into a newsletter post coming November 20th. If you don’t want to miss it, sign up to The Sugar Bowl at the bottom of the page.

For now, I switched over to a new book I found at Goodwill: You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn. I’m only on chapter five, but it’s not bad so far. I usually don’t read books that I don’t know what happens. For example, I watched The Hunger Games movies before I read the books. Same happened with Maze Runner and Divergent. We’ll see how it goes reading this new book!

Dinner was a good ‘ol Costco frozen pizza—can’t go wrong there. I watched a bit of my show while eating, then started dozing off. I ended up falling asleep before 9:45, which is rare for me, but I think the time change finally caught up. My husband woke me up and helped me to bed when it was time.

A Little Encouragement

Today’s verse is from Hebrews 10:24–25:
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together… but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

That’s my two days, y’all! Nothing too exciting, but I loved every bit of it—even the moments with that dang darn tree skirt.

Thanks for spending your afternoon here with me. Hope your November day is cozy and full of sweetness.

With a spoonful of sweetness, Rachel
