A Weekend Full of Sweet Moments

Good afternoon y’all!
Because today’s post includes 3 days instead of the normal 2, it will be a little longer. Can’t wait to tell y’all about what happened in my world for the past 3 days! With my lemonade in hand, let’s get chatting!

Friday (11/7)

Today I got up later than I would like to. It was about 9:45am, but I’ve been getting better about it lately. Some days I’m up early and ready to roll, and other days my body just says “nope.” Because it was Friday, that meant I had to get a blog post out, so the first order of business was writing. While I wrote, I had some toast with butter and jam for breakfast. I usually wouldn’t put butter then jam on my toast, but my hubby introduced it to me after we got married and I haven’t been able to go back! Definitely recommend y’all try it sometime.

I was unfortunately two minutes late to post that blog, but that isn’t so bad to me. Just have to keep working on my timing and editing rhythm.

Then came the morning chores. In reality, it was closer to 1pm, but on posting days (including Thursday for my newsletter) I always put writing and posting first, then move to chores. I got the dishes done, vacuumed, and tidied up. Nothing too crazy.

After finishing chores, I needed to go to my parents’ to grab some piano dollies for my new piano! But instead of texting my dad to ask if it was fine, I just went to his work. I usually visit my mom at her work more often, but I thought it’d be nice to see my dad and ask in person.

Of course, he said yes and we had a fun little chat. I then went home and my mom was already there. After saying hello, I grabbed the dollies so I wouldn’t forget them later. Once they were in the truck, Mom and I ended up talking for about an hour. I always love catching up with her — I didn’t do it much when I was younger, but now that I’m older, I really value it. You realize at some point how special that simple time together is.

After our chat, I ran to Raley’s to grab a few things for dinner that night. Tonight’s meal was Taco Soup, a family recipe from my husband’s side, and it turned out so good. I’ll for sure be posting it on The Sugar Bowl soon!

While hubby headed off to a church meeting, I had the house to myself. I ate dinner, watched my TV show, and wished I’d made cornbread to go with the soup — that combo would’ve been perfect.

Later, I decided to give Mr. Tuck a much-needed bath. The dude had been greasy, gross, and long overdue. The water coming off him was brown (so nasty!), but Dawn really did its magic and got all that crud out of his fur. Now that I know how dirty he gets, that boy’s getting a monthly bath for sure.

After towel-drying him as best as I could, I tried reading my book again. I don’t know why I can’t get through more than a few pages at a time. I only made it about five pages in before setting it down. It’s something I want to read, but I just can’t focus at home. I think I need to start going somewhere quiet — maybe the library — so I can’t distract myself. If that doesn’t work, I might switch over to the Hunger Games or Divergent series to spark that reading habit again.

After my reading attempt, I made some whipped iced coffee (recipe on The Sugar Bowl!) and worked on my crochet Christmas tree skirt. Once hubby got home, we chatted while I crocheted, then got ready for bed and called it a night.

Saturday (11/8)

Guess who woke up later than planned again… me! But it was Saturday, so it’s fine — right? I did something unusual this morning: I showered in the morning instead of at night. Total change-up for me, but I wanted to try something fun with my hair.

After my shower, I did the dishes, then went straight into hair experiments. I used curl cream and diffused it, hoping to bring out my “natural” waves. I even tried rolling my curtain bangs to shape them up. Spoiler alert: it didn’t turn out great.

After trying to make my hair cooperate, I vacuumed and did laundry. Then I started prepping the living room for the new piano. I had rearranged furniture a week earlier to make space, but today I needed to shift a few pieces again to be sure the piano would fit through the door. That alone felt like a full workout!

When I finally took my hair down, it was… not cute. I pinned it up again to try and keep the shape, threw my hair towel on top, and hoped for the best. When I took it down before going to Home Depot it was not at all what I wanted it to be. I think I rolled my bangs the wrong way, honestly. Next time I see my hairdresser, I’ll be asking for a little lesson!

After that adventure, hubby and I went to Home Depot to grab a few things we’d need to move the piano. Then we picked up a friend, grabbed the trailer, and met another helper back home. I had found the cutest country-blue piano on Marketplace — it had the exact country vibe I love — but the seller ghosted me last minute. I was so bummed!

So, hubby and I scrambled to find another piano. We messaged people for about an hour, and finally found one. Not blue (yet!), but still beautiful. When we picked it up, I realized it looked just like my grandparents’ piano — so it already felt special. The guys loaded it up, brought it home, and got it inside while I picked up In-N-Out for them and a personal size MOD pizza for myself.

After dinner, I worked on my tree skirt again until hubby surprised me with a “froyo?” suggestion. Of course I said yes. We try to have a date or hangout time at least once a week — nothing fancy, just us spending time together. It’s something that gets us away from the outside world. After froyo, we came home and I journaled (as always!). I wrote a whole rant about my reading struggles, then we called it a night.

Sunday (11/9)

Woke up earlier than normal today — around 7:45am — and it felt so good to start the day off right. I made breakfast for hubby and me: eggs and bacon, a classic. I wanted to bake a coffee cake, but there just wasn’t time this morning. Another day, though!

After eating, we got ready for church. The sermon was good, but there were a few things I didn’t quite grasp, so I made a mental note to ask about them at small group on Monday.

While hubby went to another church meeting, I went home, let Tuck out, and packed him some snacks for afterward. I waited in the church parking lot with my crochet and my “country book,” and — surprise — I chose crocheting over reading again. At least my tree skirt is making good progress!

When hubby finished up, we headed home for some quiet hangout time. Later, we went to his aunt and uncle’s to put the trailer away, but not before I had a little photo shoot with Tuck for my mom’s family calendar project. I made him a goofy ghost costume out of a thrifted pillowcase — cut, hemmed, and sewn into the cutest (and silliest) thing.

At his aunt and uncle’s, Tuck got to play with their puppy, and of course, he found their pool and decided it was the perfect time for a little swim. That dog loves the water more than anything.

Not long after, I started getting a terrible headache — the kind that sists behind your forehead and just won’t quit. It turned into nausea, so I sat in the car for a bit while hubby looked at some fencing work they needed done. Once we got home, I took my meds for my headache and crashed hard on the couch. When I woke up, Tuck was curled up at my feet, making sure I was ok like the sweetest little buddy.

After a few on-and-off naps, I finally felt completely better — no headache, no nausea, nothing. Hubby made me a grilled cheese, I watched my TV show, and I was just so thankful it passed.

A Little Encouragement

Today’s verse is from Proverbs 3:5–6:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Well, that was my last three days! I’m so excited to play my piano more and finish the tree skirt. I’m already counting down to Christmas — I decorate the day after Thanksgiving, and I wish it could come sooner!

Thank you for reading today’s post! Make sure to see the photos below to get a glimpse of the things I was sharing with y’all. Hope to see you next time and that you have an amazing color-changing November day.

With a spoonful of sweetness, Rachel
