A Fresh Start to the Week
Good afternoon y’all!
It’s so good to sit down and chat with you again. I’ve got my iced coffee in hand and can’t wait to share what Monday (11/3) and Tuesday (11/4) looked like for me. Let’s get into it!
Monday (11/3)
Lately, I’ve been getting back into the rhythm of being a stay-at-home wife. After a few weeks of feeling off, I’m finally back on track—and honestly excited to do my chores again! My Mom would be so proud. Haha!
I like getting most of my housework done in the mornings so my afternoons and evenings are free for the things I love. And for being with my husband. So, Monday started with dishes (we don’t have a dishwasher, so it’s a must!), vacuuming, and laundry. Once that’s done, I always feel more awake and ready for the day.
Next up was the DMV, I finally changed my last name after getting married in June 2024, I’d been putting it off forever, but it only took 30 minutes! If that’s on your back burner—just do it. It wasn’t bad at all, especially since I brought my crochet to keep busy while waiting.
When I got home, I added a matte topcoat to some picture frames for my Disney pin collection. My family and I love pin trading at the parks, and I decided to frame a few of my favorites. I’ll but a photo of what it looks like on the wall at the bottom of this post. If y’all want a little “how I made it” tutorial, join my free newsletter The Sugar Bowl—I might share it there soon!
By the time I finished painting, I was starving. For lunch, I made one of my husband’s and my odd little inventions: Bacon Mayo Sandwiches—literally just bacon, mayo, and toasted bread. Sounds strange, but trust me, it’s good.
After lunch, I weaved in yarn tails on a few crochet coaster sets (28 coasters and baskets total!). If you’re new to crochet, weaving tails is how you finish and secure your pieces. It’s simple but time-consuming—so after that, I definitely needed a pick-me-up.
I whipped up my go-to iced whipped coffee—a little leftover favorite from 2021 that I still love today. (If you want the full recipe, it’ll be in The Sugar Bowl as well soon!). Then I settled in to work on my crochet Christmas tree skirt, made from hexagon granny squares. It’s coming together so nicely!
That evening, my husband and I headed to our church small group. We meet weekly to talk about Sunday’s sermon, and it’s always such a refreshing time to connect, pray, and grow with others. We left feeling so full.
And that wrapped up Monday!
Tuesday (11/4)
Tuesday started a little slower—I woke up around 9am instead of my usual 8. After breakfast, I walked my puppy, Tucker. We go every morning when we can, and it’s such a nice way to start the day. The cool air wakes me up and sets the tone for getting chores done once we’re back.
After the walk, I tackled dishes and laundry again—short and sweet, just how I like it! Then it was time for an at-home photo shoot for my Etsy shop. I’m not fully launched yet, but I wanted to get some photos of my coaster sets and pillowcases. The lighting was perfect, and it felt good to be creative.
Later, I finished the last few hexagons for my crochet tree skirt…only to realize I needed to make 18 more! The not-so-fun side of crochet, haha. Still, I love how it’s turning out.
For a snack, I melted some of my parents’ homemade caramel and dipped granny smith apple slices in it—oh my goodness, so good. They made it for Halloween, and it’s one of those treats that never lasts long.
The rest of the afternoon was spent editing photos for Etsy and working on social posts for Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. I haven’t posted on everything yet, but I got one post up on YouTube—so that’s a win in my book!
Dinner was meatloaf—good, though not quite as good as my grandma’s (hers will always be the best). Afterward, I watched a little TV while arranging my Disney pins on their new boards. My brother called from college in Virginia, and we caught up for a bit. I told him about this blog and The Sugar Bowl—so if you’re reading this, hey lil bro!
The night ended with a little more crocheting, hanging out with my husband a finally heading to bed.
Wow, that was a full couple of days! Thanks so much for joining me for this little life update. Let me know if y’all prefer these detailed posts or a quicker summary version. Either way, I’m so happy to share this cozy country space with y’all.
Here’s today’s encouragement, from Matthew 11:28-29:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Thank y’all for reading my post! I hope you had a great time at our afternoon coffee date.
With a spoonful of sweetness, Rachel
