A Surprise Snow Day, Picking Up the House and a Few Things I’d Like to Do This Year

Good afternoon, y’all!
Hey y’all! Hope all y’all have had a great start to your day. Today is going to be a little different in this post. I wasn’t able to post anything on Wednesday, so I am going to be grouping together Monday through Thursday. It’s gonna be long, but I have a feelin’ y’all won’t mind.

Today I’m drinking some flavored water with some super fun Disney Lofi in the background! With that, grab a seat and let’s dive into these past 4 days!

Another thing! I just made an Instagram for the blog and newsletter! Click here to visit!

Monday 12/29

On this particular day, I got up pretty late. I’ve noticed I’ve been doin’ that more and want to change that. Maybe get up between 7am and 8am. After getting up, I felt much better than the day before. If y’all hadn’t read my previous post, I was sick starting on the 26th. I did feel better, but still feelin’ crummy. So, I decided to hang out on the couch most of the day. Was it the best decision? No. I was there all day and should’ve done some simple things around the house. I didn’t make that choice today, but instead I will take it as a learning experience and try to do better the next time I’m sick.

When Hubby came home, we had dinner, got ready and went to bed. Probably one of the shortest days I’ve told y’all about. Haha!

Tuesday 12/30

This morning, I got up at a more reasonable time which was 9am. Pretty good for still being a little under the weather if ya ask me! After getting up, I fed Tuck and took him out. When we got back inside, I started on the blog post that was supposed to be posted the day before. I’ve been getting my days mixed up and have been forgetting to write and post for y’all.

While writing, I made some hard-boiled eggs and turned some into deviled eggs. I had about 12 deviled eggs, which was more than enough, and scarfed them down way too fast. And man did I pay for it. Had a stomachache for a while after. They are so darn good though. Almost worth it. Haha!

After posting the late blog, I did some dishes with my pal. Tucker loves the squishy mat I have in the kitchen. When I do dishes, he always follows me in and tries to take a small piece of the mat to sleep on.

A little after the dishes were cleaned, Hubby came home. We sat together and talked and enjoyed each other’s company. When you have time with really any of your loved ones, the best time with them is simply sitting down and talking with them. Nothin’ hits the same as that. After talking and enjoying one another’s company, we got ready and went to bed.

Wednesday 12/31

Today I actually had to get up early. I got up at 7:30am ish and got ready. I had a dentist’s appointment at 10am and had to do a few things before going. I got ready and went to my parents’ house. I left my purse there on Christmas and needed it for the dentist.

After grabbing it I went to the dentist and had my normal cleaning. Nothin’ much to report on for that.

After the cleaning was done, I headed home. When I got home, I got a text from Hubby asking if I wanted to have a snow day. I thought he was asking about a future day, but he said it would be today! Of course, I said yes and started getting ready. I put on some warm clothes, gathered jackets for when we were there and got some snacks. I also got Tucker ready because he was comin’ too! He had never seen snow before and he LOVED IT! I’ll make sure to put some cute pics of him at the bottom of this post. We were out there for a few hours and we all loved it. When it was time, we packed everything up and headed home.

When we got home, we dropped off Tuck and went back out to grab some dinner. We went by Jack in the Box, picked up our meals and went back home. After eating with some YouTube in the background, Hubby and I did somethin’ we haven’t done in a while. We picked up the PS4 controllers and played some Call of Duty. We’ll get the itch once every few months to play and I’m so happy we did today. It was so much fun just bein’ silly with each other and spending that time together. Definitely felt like it did when we would play when we were dating. And I loved every second of it.

After playing, y’all know what we did. We got ready and went to bed!

Thursday 1/1

Today I got up around 9:30 and 10. Not great, but it could’ve been worse. Haha! After getting up, I toasted some Eggos, ate ‘em and got to work. Hubby already went out to hang out with some out-of-town friends, so it was just me! Over the last few weeks, I’ve not been happy with how our home has looked. It looks like we have 2 or 3 kids when all we’ve got are 2 animals. And one sleeps all day. AKA: Banjo our cat.

So, I got to work. I started a load of laundry then tackled the mountain of dishes. Not just a little pile, but a mountain. We don’t have a dishwasher, so it all has to be done by hand. And I put a good dent in the mountain. After cleaning the dishes, I picked up and cleaned the kitchen as much as possible. We also don’t have a massive kitchen. It’s on the smaller side. That means most of our dirty dishes are on another countertop, not just in or next to the sink. I wanted to make it possible to cook on the stovetop without having to move a lot of stuff. And with the rearranging and cleaning, I was able to!

A little tip I’d like to add here about the mountain of dirty dishes. What Hubby and I have been doin’ while trying to tackle Dish Mountain was to use paper plates and plastic utensils when we could. We’ve got a massive Costco pack of both from a camping trip we had with a group of friends a year ago. We are able to use them because they were in our pantry and really needed to be used. If you are stuck in this spot, don’t feel like you need to do this when you can’t for whatever reason. We just find it helpful to tackle the mountain.

After cleaning the kitchen, Hubby told me he and his friends were going to come over and hang out at our place for a bit. So, I got started on the family room. I usually like to at least clean the living room because it is the place we are the most. I’d rather have a messy bedroom than a messy living room. But that’s just me. The guys came over and I continued to pick up the living room while they talked. I was also taking down Christmas.

I don’t have a set day I take down Christmas. I always put it up the day after Thanksgiving and take it down sometime during the week of New Years.

It was good to see them and talk with them here and there while I cleaned and picked up the living room. They were all kinda like my podcast. Haha! After an hour or so, Hubby and the guys went to another friend’s house to hang out with some more guys. I continued to clean until I couldn’t anymore. And the house really doesn’t look too bad!

When I was done with cleaning for the day, I sat on the couch and chilled for a bit. And when I got hungry, I made some dinner, Taco Soup. I’ve never had this meal before, but it was a staple in Hubby’s family. I asked him once for the recipe and there is none. Just put a bunch of taco stuff into a pot with some broth and you’re done. So, I browned some beef, and added beans, olives, spices and broth. Pretty simple, but SO GOOD! I highly recommend making it! After making and eating dinner, I built more of my Tuxedo Cat LEGO on BrickLink Studio until Hubby came home. We talked for a bit while he had some of the put away soup until it was time to get ready and go to bed.

I do have a little something I wanted to share with y’all. Just a few things I would like to accomplish this year. Not like New Years resolutions where they’re too crazy or impossible to accomplish. But instead goals I could reach before the 365 days of this year are up. I encourage all y’all to do the same. Set some simple goals for this year and try to stick to ‘em! Here are mine:

  • Get up between 7am and 8am every weekday and 8am and 9am every weekend

  • Complete at least 3 chores a day

  • Walk Tucker at least 3 times a week

  • Read maybe at least 2 times a week

  • Start a YouTube channel for blog

And those are my Reasonable Resolutions! I don’t want to explain too much about the YouTube channel because it’s still in the works, but I hope y’all are as excited as I am about it!

A Little Encouragement

Today’s Bible verse is Psalm 46:1:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

I hope y’all enjoyed this longer post! I hope all y’all have a warm and cozy rest of your day. Oh! And don’t forget to take those vitamins or drink your water today! Bye!!

With A Spoonful of Sugar, Rachel
