Just Another Cozy November Weekend
Just a heads-up: feeling sick and being nauseous are briefly mentioned in this post. I want to keep things real, but I also want to give a light trigger warning for anyone sensitive to that kind of content. I want everyone to enjoy these posts without feeling uncomfortable. With that said, here’s today’s post!
Good afternoon, y’all!
Once again, I’m sitting here without a drink—but I do have a pack of M&Ms, so we’re counting that as something. I’ve also got a cuddly little puppy, Tucker, sleeping next to me, which definitely helps. My TV show is playing in the background, and I’m hoping to finish this post before I get distracted, so grab your favorite snack or drink, pull up a chair, and let’s get chatting!
Friday 11/14
Friday did not start well. I woke up at 4:30 a.m. feeling awful—pain, nausea, the whole deal. Hubby and I were up for about an hour before I finally fell back asleep and ended up sleeping in until 10. Honestly, I wasn’t mad about it; my body clearly needed it.
Once I got up, I went straight to the couch and finished writing Friday’s blog post. I actually wrapped up a whole hour early, which made me ridiculously proud. But as soon as I stopped typing, the pain hit even harder. I tried distracting myself with TV, but it didn’t do much.
Tucker had to go to the vet that day to get weighed for his monthly flea and tick meds, so I rode along with Hubby. Tuck was in the backseat, and I was in the front seat just trying not to throw up. Even the pain meds I took weren’t helping. By the time we got home, I felt so nauseous I sat on the bathroom floor for a good half hour, waiting for something to happen—nothing did—so back to the couch I went. Eventually, finally, the meds kicked in and I could function again. Barly, but I could and not in pain.
Feeling a bit better, I put on Bolt, one of my forever-favorite Disney movies. It hits completely different as an adult, and halfway through the movie Hubby checked in to see if I felt good enough to eat. I was more than ready. My McDonald’s order rarely changes: 10-piece McNuggets, BBQ sauce, a large fry, and a Dr. Pepper. Pure happiness.
After he got back with the food, I finished my movie and then fell down a YouTube rabbit hole of hair-botching videos—people frying their hair off never fails to keep my attention.
Then I went in a totally different direction: LEGO. There’s a free gift-with-purchase right now—a little Disney retro TV set—and I’ve seen people design their own scenes to put inside it. I don’t actually own the set (yet), though I suspect someone may have grabbed it for me for Christmas. If not… Marketplace will be seeing me soon. Haha! The tricky part is that I don’t have any extra bricks at home, so I found a program called BrickLink Studio. It lets you build digitally, and after a slightly frustrating start, I’m obsessed. I’ll drop some of my little builds and what the TV set looks like at the bottom of the post.
Later that evening, I stepped outside because I wanted to check on our broken sprinkler. I hadn’t seen it yet and have been wanting to but forgetting. That thing shoots water straight up like a mini geyser—about four feet tall. As I was heading back in, something moved in the bushes. A huge opossum. They freak me out, so I immediately told Hubby. He practically ran outside and got all close and personal with it, snapping pictures like it was a National Geographic special. For everyone’s sake, I’ll spare you the images—just picture one very fat opossum and you’ve got it. And no hate to my Hubby, I find it charming he loves animals like that, but I don’t get the opossum part. Lol.
After looking at the scary creature, we started our bedtime routine. Part of that was filling the bathtub because the power was scheduled to go out the next day, and since our water pump runs on electricity, no power means no flushing. The bath water was strictly for the toilet or washing hands—and not for dishes, because absolutely not. Because of this, as of 11/17, I now have a pile of dishes to do. And I am just jumping for joy to do them (massive amount of sarcasm in that sentence).
Of course, Banjo had no clue the tub was full. That cat loves an empty bathtub. I was on the couch when I heard a loud thump; turns out Banjo had leapt in and immediately launched himself right back out. Poor guy was soaked from belly to paws and tracked little wet pawprints everywhere. We dried him off, got ourselves ready for bed, and called it a night.
Saturday 11/15
I woke up at 7 a.m., which was definitely an improvement from the day before. It felt nice to have a slow morning. Hubby headed out to help his grandparents move firewood, and since our power was out, I packed up Tucker and some things to keep busy and headed somewhere with electricity and free food. My parents house!
While I was there, I watched one of the most nostalgic things ever: Disney Sing-Along Songs. It’s on YouTube if you want to relive pure childhood bliss. As it played, I built more LEGO designs on my laptop and talked with my parents. Sometimes a lazy day with no expectations is exactly what you need.
Around 3:30 p.m., I packed up and went home so Hubby and I could get ready for a double date with friends. We even brought Tuck with us. Dinner was amazing, and it was so nice to catch up. We stayed out later than we usually do, talking and laughing until the night was about to turn into early morning. Once we got home, we got ready for bed and called it a night.
Sunday 11/16
Because we stayed up so late, I slept in until 10 a.m. We usually go to the 9:30 church service, but we decided to switch to the 12:30 one instead. I spent the morning building even more LEGO—as you can tell, this new hobby has a firm grip on me.
Church was wonderful, and afterward Hubby and I picked up Taco Bell because the house was a mess and we were completely out of food. Normally we rely on leftovers for lunch, but that didn’t happen since I was either sick, gone, or horizontal for two days straight.
For anyone curious, my Taco Bell order is either two bean burritos with added beef, or one bean burrito with added beef and a regular Doritos taco. And it always, always, has to come with a Pepsi. It’s like going to McDonald’s and not getting a Coke—it just isn’t right.
After lunch, I put in my AirPods and watched my show while working on more LEGO ideas for the TV set. Hubby read for a while and then headed to a group hangout with some guys from church to talk about a book they’re reading—pretty much a manly, godly book club.
While he was gone, I kept watching my show, kept building LEGO, and took a break to eat leftover steak from our double date. When Hubby came back, he finished some homework, and by 10 p.m. I was ready for bed.
A Little Encouragement
Today’s Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
I really wish this post wasn’t finished, because now I have to do the dishes and pick up our home—which currently looks a bit like a frat house. The fluff from the dog toys definitely isn’t helping the situation. As I’m writing this, it’s pouring outside the Clark home. If it’s raining where you are too, I hope you’re staying warm, dry, and cozy on this November day.
