Come On In, the House is Looking Very Much Lived-In
Good afternoon, y’all!
Finally, I’ve got some real food in me while I write—scrambled eggs and a mini Dr. Pepper. Not exactly a great breakfast, but man, it hits the spot. I’ve also got some good ‘l country music going in the background. With that, grab your favorite snack or drink, pull up a chair and let’s get to chattin about these last couple of days!
Monday 11/17
Monday didn’t start too bad. I slept in later than usual and didn’t get up until 9:45am. It was so dark that morning, and when I finally looked outside, it was absolutely pouring. You could hear every drop hitting the roof. Hubby had already left for work by the time I got up. I’ve been trying to share more about when he’s around or not, just to give some context to my stories.
Once I admired the rain for a bit, I started writing the day’s blog post and finished about half an hour before 1pm. I truly love writing these and chatting with y’all.
After I was done, I started cleaning our “frat house.” At least, that’s what it felt like. Trash and dirty dishes on the coffee table, dishes piled high in the sink, barely anything clean left—it was a mess.
Now, why am I telling y’all this? First off, I’m assuming mostly women read these posts—the ones usually cleaning the house. And second, I want to show that a messy home is normal. I had just gotten over not feeling well, and since I’m the main one who handles chores, everything fell behind. When the woman of the house gets sick, things sometimes fall apart. But that doesn’t mean you should feel ashamed or discouraged. Homes get messy. Life happens. And Hubby wasn’t worried about the house—he was worried about me and doing what he could to help me feel better. And it’s okay to have a messy home here and there, but don’t be depressed that it looks that way. It’s okay. <3
Once I started feeling better, I started on cleaning the “frat house”. Laundry, dishes, picking up trash from the coffee table and kitchen, vacuuming—the works. My motivation was simply wanting to relax in a clean space again. It’s still far from perfect, but it feels livable.
Around the time I was wrapped up cleaning, Hubby came home and made Costco Orange Chicken for lunch. This stuff is incredible and only takes minutes to make. I sat down with my bowl and my TV show and enjoyed every bite.
After eating and laughing at Joey and Chandler (hint to what I’m watching haha!) I got back to building LEGO on my laptop. I get sucked right into a rabbit hole every time. If you love LEGO and you’re even slightly mechanically minded, you’ve gotta try BrickLink Studio.
After building for a while, I started to feel sick again—not as bad as Friday (11/14), but close. Thankfully it only lasted about 20 minutes. I put on Cars as a distraction, and halfway through Hubby and I had to pause so we could get ready for Friendsgiving. It ended up being such a fun night just hanging out with friends. When we finally got home, we went straight to bed.
Tuesday 11/18
I got up around 8:30am—not too bad. I spent a little too long on my phone on the couch instead of getting my morning going, but oh well. Hubby left for work, and then I started tackling chores: laundry, dishes, vacuuming. The usual.
Once the house looked decent, I made Chili’s Soup. I started around 11am, and honestly, cooking something warm in the afternoon felt really cozy. I plan on sharing the recipe with y’all soon. It’s not a family recipe, but we had it a lot when I was younger—and every Halloween—and it’s stuck with me.
After lunch, I put the leftovers into those bowls from Business Costco. I 100% recommend them. They make leftovers so much easier—just grab and go. You can do the same with regular Tupperware, but the Costco bowls are my favorite. Haha!
And then… yep. I built more LEGO with my TV show on in the background. I could’ve done more chores, sure, but I didn’t want to. We’re all human. Just means Imma have to clean a little bit more today (11/19 is when I’m writing this). I treat being a stay-at-home wife like a part-time job in the sense of the cleaning. I still want to do fun things during my day. My goal is to clean from 9am–1pm. If I finish early, I do little homemaker tasks—tidy a corner, read, whatever. If I finish after 1pm, then I go straight to something fun. Right now, that means LEGOs. Lol.
Since Hubby and I planned a movie night, I went to Raley’s to get the essentials: popcorn, candy (Dr. Pepper jelly beans for Hubby, chocolate-covered raisins for me), ice cream (cookies and cream and chocolate), mini Dr. Peppers, and bananas (those were for Hubby for the week, not movie night—haha!). Then I came home and waited for Hubby while building more LEGO.
When he got home, I heated up some of the soup and we watched Brother Bear. I haven’t seen it in ages, and it was pure nostalgia. Even better, Hubby had a childhood black Lab named Koda, and the dog and the bear were basically the same personality. Haha!
After the movie, Hubby did homework while I put on my show with my AirPods and—of course—kept building LEGO. Then we got ready for bed and called it a night.
A Little Encouragement
Today’s Bible verse is 1 Peter 5:7:
“Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”
With that, thank y’all for reading this post! I really don’t want to, but Tucker found Ducky (his toy duck) and has put all of his fluff guts all over my floor, so guess what Imma do now…But I hope y’all have an amazing, warm and cozy November day. Bye y’all!
P.S. Tomorrow is a newsletter day!
If y’all want a little extra from me, subscribe below to The Sugar Bowl! I send out a newsletter on the first and third Thursdays of the month—the first is always a family recipe with a fun story, and the third is a rant or something fun I wanna chat about. And tomorrow is a rant day! Hope to see y’all there! :)
With a spoonful of sweetness, Rachel
Photos!
Don’t have many pictures for this week, just the LEGO builds I made. Gotta get better at taking photos lol
I am also going to try and fix the issue with not being able to read some captions on a phone. But if you wanna see what they say, go on your laptop/computer. Hopefully I can fix this soon!
