NEW POST! Chores, Grocery Shopping and Coins. So Many Coins

Good afternoon, y’all!
Hey y’all! Hope you are all having a great day so far. I mentioned this to y’all over on the blog’s Instagram, but today’s post is late because I had some things today, I had to get done. Sometimes that just happens, but I know y’all don’t mind as long as y’all get the post!

Today I have the new Poppi flavor: Shirley Temple as my drink of choice for today (if you want to see me try it for the first time, go here to watch!) and I have some relaxing Disney Piano in the background. Without further ado, pull up a chair to my kitchen table and let’s get chatting!

Monday 2/9

This morning, I did the usual. I got up, fed and took out Tucker. When we got back inside, I started writing the blog for the day. When I finished, I did laundry, vacuumed, grinded Tucker's nails down, dishes, and picked up the living room.

All of these were normal, besides grinding down Tuck’s nails. His nails don’t naturally trim themselves because he doesn’t have access to a backyard (and I need to take him out more lol). If your dog is running around in the backyard all day, their nails naturally get dull and shorter. Because Tucker doesn’t have a backyard to play in, his nails are like daggers. And his declaws are the sharpest out of all of them. Because his declaws don’t touch the ground when he’s running, they remain sharp and dangerous. Well, they are only truly dangerous when he gets excited and starts jumping, but they’re not too big of a deal. My mom gave Hubby and I their nail grinder they used on my parent’s dogs, and because they don’t have them anymore, she gave it to us. I introduced the grinder to Tuck slowly and with a lot of treats, but he really didn’t care or mind the grinder, so I started. His only problem during the whole thing was I was holding his paw for too long. He wanted his little paw-paw back. Haha! I’m tellin’ y’all, I do not deserve this dog. He is just the best.

After chores, I was starting to not feel good from my cycle and I went to the couch. I decided to do some digital drawing while having some YouTube in the background. I was working on the same drawing I had mentioned in my last post. The main idea was done, but I still had to do the details. I was on the couch for too long and I should’ve stopped when I was feeling better, but I didn’t. Part of it was that I was enjoying drawing again and the other was I didn’t want to do more chores. We are all human, and there are things like this, choosing one more fun thing over the boring thing, but that’s what makes life fun. Choose to draw until you feel better, do boring house stuff, and when you’re finished, get back to drawing. Because we make not so great decisions, we get to turn around and work on ourselves in that area of our lives. Don’t want to shove too much of this in y’all’s faces, but I’d rather put a positive, God-filled take on something like this rather than feel sorry for myself and say “I’ll do better next time” when that is nowhere to be found when I’m in the same position.

Any whom, Hubby came home while I was finishing up drawing. When he came, we were right back again because we had Small Group. In our church we have these things called small groups. It’s pretty much where once a week people in your area (that all go to the same church) meet at one person’s home and we talk about the sermon. After an hour or so, we break into guys and girls and we share/talk about prayer requests. I absolutely love getting together as believers and talking about the sermon. And I love hearing things the girls need prayer for so that I can do so for them.

When small group was done, we all said our goodbyes and Hubby and I headed home. When driving home, we decided to stop by Taco Bell and grab some food for a spontaneous, mini and cheap date. Honestly, these are some of my favorite dates. Don’t need to go anywhere fancy and don’t need any fancy food. I just want to hang out with my best friend and talk over some good food.

We drove home, parked in the parking lot where we live and we talked. Because he’s at work all the time and we don’t get to spend much time together, I really treasure this time with him. I try and put down what I’m doing so that we can talk and hang out. I love my husband and am proud of the work he does, but it can/does take a toll on both of us. But being able to hang out with each other, even if it’s for a short amount of time is such a blessing.

When we finished eating, we went inside, got ready and went to bed.

Tuesday 2/10

This morning, I got up much earlier than I usually do. And that was at 6am. Even though I was awake, I wanted to spend some time on my phone. I did that for about 45 minutes then got up. And I did the usual song and dance: I fed and took out Tucker. I brought him in and it was now time for my breakfast. I reheated some really good pancakes, ate, and got to work.

Lately, I’ve noticed we need more food in our fridge and pantry. I usually only go to the store once a month, but I think Imma have to start going back to every week or every other week. I am a person who loves structure that never moves. If I’m going to go shopping once a month, that’s what Imma do. Even if we have no food left and I go shopping the week after. But this time I realized by doing that I’m not doing my duty as a stay-at-home-wife and homemaker. I’m the one who gets the groceries, does the chores, takes the animals to the vet or park, etc. I’m not fulfilling one of my duties in a productive way.

I sat at the computer, and I started Googling some budget friendly meals. After finding some really good-looking meals, I put together a grocery list and starting ordering things from Walmart. If you didn’t know, you can do a Walmart drive up pick up at NO EXTRA COST. My mom told me about this when I didn’t want to go grocery shopping months ago and I thought you had to me on Walmart+ or something. She said, “Nope, you don’t!” and I haven’t turned back sense. All you have to do is make a Walmart account (which is free) and start adding things to your cart. Even better, you get a discounted price when shopping online verses in stores. For this trip, I saved a few bucks just by shopping online verses in store. Yes, a couple dollars isn’t a ton but add that up over a few months/years and it’s quite a bit. And you don’t have to go searching isle by isle looking for something or trying to find the cheapest version of an item you’re looking for.

I finished ordering food from Walmart, and I got straight to the next thing. My pickup time was in 3 hours, and I had quite a bit I could do to fit in 2 hours. “2 hours?” you ask. Yes, I like to go to Costco an hour or so before my Walmart pick up time, so I don’t have to leave frozen in my car after going to Walmart then needing to go to Costco. I go to Costco then Walmart, so nothing thaws out or gets too warm. (hope that makes sense. Lol) I did the dishes, laundry and vacuumed. Now, all of those things could’ve taken you about an hour. But I don’t have a dishwasher, so it took much more time to do my dishes compared to someone who has a dishwasher. I miss having a dishwasher so bad, I have done other people’s dishes when I’m at their house. I just miss using a dishwasher that bad. Haha!

Just as I sat on the couch when I finished vacuuming, it was time for me to go to Costco. I grabbed bags and headed over. I parked, went inside, got what I needed and got back in the car. As I was about to pull out of my spot, Walmart texted me that my order was now ready to pick up. Perfect timing. I drove over to Walmart, parked, waited, got my food, and went home. The total time it takes me to grocery shop (out of the house, not ordering food) is somewhere between 1 and a half hours and 2 hours. It used to take me so much longer just to go shopping. But now that I utilize picking up my food from Walmart, it cuts my shopping time in half. Next time I go shopping, I’ll make a video for the blog’s Instagram and show y’all how much total time it takes me to shop.

I came home and took out the groceries from the truck and brought them inside. I thought it would be fun unpacking them with y’all, so I filmed it and made it into an Instagram reel. If you want to watch that, click here to go see it!

After filming, editing, and unloading the groceries, I got to a half chore, half fun thing to do. For a while now, there have been a lot of coins sitting on my coffee table. As well as some coin collector books. If you can remember, Hubby and I went to help my grandma clean out her garage and we found a ton of coins. And she just gave them to us. Hubby collects pennies, dimes and the 50 state quarters. I also collect the 50 state quarters to paint them one day.

I needed to go through the coins to see which were needed for our collections and which ones we didn’t need. And I went to work. I’m that person who loves doing detail and meticulous work that others hate. I’m that person who when playing solitaire on my computer, I don’t hit the “solve” check mark, I put every single card in it’s correct suit. I just love meticulous work. Haha!

I went to work on getting all the coins in their proper place. I sorted the coins out, I looked at what Hubby and I needed and went coin by coin. And loved it the entire time. But when dinner time came around, I put it to the side and started making Pesto Pasta. It’s as simple as it sounds. I just bake some chicken and cut it into bite sized pieces, make some pasta, and put a spoonful (or two) of pesto into the pasta and mix it all together. Hubby and I LOVE IT and I for sure recommend on making it if you can.

After making diner, I ate while sorting through more coins. It was quite late when Hubby came home, but we still chatted when he was eating and I was sorting. And when it came time, we got ready and went to bed.

A Little Encouragement

Today’s Bible verse is Ephesians 5:33:
“However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

Thank you to all y’all who finally got to the end of today’s post! I just looked at the word count and it’s now over 2,000. Which is great for me, cause I love doing it. Just hope you like to read. Haha! I hope to see y’all on Friday for the next post!

With a Spoonful of Sugar, Rachel
